Astrobillys on "The Edge" - June 7/'57
The Arts Court opened it's doors on Saturday night for "The Edge" - a 'celebration' of alternative thought, avant garde music, poetry and cuisine. And a lot of other weird stuff. A guy walking around with a life sized doll strapped to the front of his body with the head in his crotch. An office scene shot to pieces with a 303. A bag of Fritos cut open with chili on top and a fork. The Astrobillys. Really out there stuff. I can't speak for the whole night - I was trying to keep moving and keep a low profile. But then I heard the unmistakable sound of echoey guitar on pounding rhythm section, and people screaming. I look around the corner and see three guys dressed in gold lame suits with TV sets on their heads. And get this - three exotic and beautiful women (I am thinking - Star Trek women from the mid-sixties that somehow found themselves in Ottawa on Saturday) belly dancing to Ubangi Stomp and Brown Eyed Handsome Man.
